U112:
Coaching and Control: Understanding Emotional Harm in Sport

Online Course

Course Description

This course takes a clear, practical look at how emotional harm shows up in sport and why it is often misunderstood. In high performance training environments, intensity, accountability, and pressure are part of the job. But when those cross into patterns of control, fear, or humiliation, the impact on the athlete changes.

Rather than focusing on isolated moments, this course helps coaches and club leaders recognize patterns of behavior, shifts in the training environment, and the role of authority in shaping the athlete experience. You will learn how emotional misconduct develops over time, how it affects athlete behavior and safety, and how to distinguish between demanding coaching and harmful practices.

The course also highlights what healthy, high performance coaching looks like in action. Expectations are high, communication is clear, and athletes can learn, ask questions, and take ownership of their training without fear.
