BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 12, 2022) - U.S. Olympians Evita Griskenas and Lili Mizuno each achieved finalist status in rhythmic gymnastics at The World Games (TWG) Tuesday at Legacy Arena, with Griskenas taking seventh in hoop and Mizuno eighth in ball.

After winning U.S. all-around, hoop and clubs titles last month, Griskenas (Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) claimed all-around gold last week at the 2022 Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Facing upgraded international competition at The World Games, she continued to find success on the world stage Tuesday. Griskenas earned a finals appearance and seventh-place finish on hoop behind scores of 32.300 in qualifications and 29.600 in the medal round. Mizuno was 11th with a 30.400. Boryana Kaleyn of Bulgaria topped the podium with a 34.400. 2021 World hoop bronze medalist Sofia Raffaeli of Italy was second with a 34.350, and Hungary's Fanni Pigniczki was third with a 33.650.

Following a qualifying score of 30.600, Mizuno (Northbrook, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center), who took bronze on ball at the Portimao World Challenge Cup earlier this year, landed eighth in the ball final with a 29.650. Israel's Daria Atamanov, the 2022 European all-around champion, scored gold with a 34.900. Raffaeli (33.550) and Pigniczki (32.550) were second and third, respectively. Griskenas finished ninth with a 29.850.

Held since 1981, The World Games is an international multi-sport event, typically held every four years, that comprises sports and sporting disciplines not contested in the Olympic Games. With the Olympics providing only rhythmic all-around competition, The World Games contests all individual rhythmic apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.

The rhythmic competition in Birmingham will conclude Wednesday with clubs and ribbon. Qualifications kick off at 3 p.m. ET with finals to follow beginning at 7:20 p.m. ET.
