NORMAN, Okla., April 15, 2022 - The reigning team champion Stanford Cardinal once again impressed on Day 1 of the 2022 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships, posting a meet-high 426.325 - more than 13 points ahead of their closest competition - to claim a spot in Saturday's team final. The Nebraska Cornhuskers (411.388) and Illinois Illini (406.691) also punched their tickets to Day 2 during the day's first session. The Michigan Wolverines led the way in the second semifinal with a 412.890. The Ohio State Buckeyes (407.956) and host Oklahoma Sooners (407.290) rounded out the six-team field.

In addition to the team title, individual national champions will be crowned Saturday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. The top-three all-arounders and the three highest-scoring individuals on each apparatus from each session who were not members of the six advancing teams also earned finals berths based on their performances Friday. Scores from the semifinals will not carry over to Saturday's competition.

Penn State sophomore Michael Jaroh (Northville, Mich.) notched the day's top all-around score (80.966), securing himself an individual finals spot in the process. Michigan's Paul Juda (junior, Deerfield, Ill.) paced the field on horizontal bar with a 14.200. Stanford gymnasts topped the scoreboard on all other apparatus. Freshman Khoi Young (Bowie, Md.) and two-time NCAA all-around champion Brody Malone (senior, Belfast, Tenn.) each notched a 14.800 on vault, while Young also set the tone on pommel horse with a 15.266. Fellow U.S. National Team members Curran Phillips (senior, Naperville, Ill., 15.200) and Colt Walker (sophomore, Cedar Park, Texas, 14.733) led the way on parallel bars and floor exercise, respectively. Senior Thomas Lee (San Mateo, Calif.) notched the high score on still rings with a 14.533.

The finals are set to get underway Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The competition will air live on SoonerSports.TV and Stadium College Sports Central.
