WASHINGTON (April 11, 2022) - USA Gymnastics board chair Kathryn Carson has been recognized by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) as part of its 2022 NACD Directorship 100™, recognizing the most influential peer-nominated leaders in the boardroom and corporate governance community.

Announced by NACD on Monday, Carson earned the recognition for her stewardship of the USAG board during the most critical time in the sport's history. Since 2018, she led USA Gymnastics through the search for a new CEO, the process of filing for bankruptcy and reorganization, and ultimately reaching a settlement with sexual assault survivors. She worked with the board, President & CEO Li Li Leung, and USAG leadership and constituents to lead an organizational culture reset that now places athletes at the center of all decision-making.

"Kathryn is extraordinarily deserving of this honor," Leung said. "Her steady leadership, unflappable judgment and commitment to doing the right thing for Survivors continues to provide our organization with a strong foundation for progress and growth."

Before assuming her role at USAG, Carson most recently served as the chief legal officer for the United States Golf Association. She was previously the senior vice president and general counsel for North American beverages and food service division at PepsiCo, where she held several roles over two decades.

"To be able to serve USA Gymnastics these past three-plus years has been my life's work," Carson said. "It has truly been an honor to work alongside so many individuals who are committed to positive change. I am humbled and honored by this recognition by NACD and look forward to the important work that lies ahead for us at USA Gymnastics."

Now in its 16th year, the NACD Directorship 100 awards recognize peer-nominated leading directors and governance professionals. Honorees are evaluated in four key categories: integrity, mature confidence, informed judgment, and high performance standards. A selection committee reviewed the nominees' histories of advancing board performance and leading corporate governance practices in accordance with established NACD principles. The principles are a framework that encourages excellence in areas that include risk oversight, corporate strategy, compensation, and transparency.

"The NACD Directorship 100 continues to honor those who have demonstrated exemplary board leadership and innovation in corporate governance," said Peter R. Gleason, NACD president and CEO. "We honor these individuals' forward-thinking minds and their ability to lead their board and organizations to current and future success."

Honorees will be recognized during the NACD Directorship 100 Gala, June 22 in New York City.
