FAQ for Parents

  • Why were most events cancelled and not postponed? First and foremost, we did not want athletes to feel pressured to continue training, and gyms feeling pressure to stay open, during a time when many governments and health experts were mandating or recommending closures. Additionally, because of the uncertainty of the length of this crisis and the complexity of our events, it was not realistically feasible to postpone the more than 300 different state and regional events that would have been conducted during the 8-week moratorium. We are deeply saddened that athletes will be unable to experience these events and milestones as we prioritize curbing the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). USA Gymnastics did not make this decision lightly. We sought the input and guidance from for our program directors and the hardworking state and regional committee representatives to ensure that the decision to cancel, while heartbreaking, was the right determination for the gymnastics community.
  • Why isn’t USA Gym. requiring local gymnastics clubs to close? Gymnastics clubs and gyms are private businesses; therefore, USA Gymnastics does not hold the authority to order them to close.
