U400: Developing Professionalism, Communication and Athlete-Centered Environments
Course Description
This course equips new and developing coaches with the knowledge and confidence to thrive in their role. Participants will explore core coaching principles, including philosophy, the balance of power and responsibility, and effective verbal and nonverbal communication. The curriculum emphasizes social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and strategies for fostering athlete confidence. Coaches will leave with practical tools to create positive, supportive training environments, encourage athlete growth, and adopt the professional mindset essential for long-term success in the sport.

Lesson 2: Power and Responsibility
Lesson 3: Active Listening
Lesson 4: Nonverbal Communication
Lesson 5: Miscommunication
Lesson 6: Social Emotional Learning
Lesson 7: Building Athletes' Self-Confidence
Lesson 8: Trauma Informed Coaching
Lesson 9: Creating Environments That Foster Self-Motivation
Lesson 10: Promoting Athlete Agency
Depending on the learner, each lesson will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.
