The primary goal of this course is to increase safety and risk management awareness and has been designed for a variety of audiences - gymnastics coaches, teachers, instructors, club owners, meet directors, judges, athletes and others. The USA Gymnastics Safety/Risk Management course addresses risk in gymnastics and provides educational guidance and tools gymnastics professionals need to deal with risk and uncertainty in the sport.
The U101 Safety/Risk Management course is offered as an online course.
U101 Safety and Risk Management Course is a required course for USA Gymnastics University.
Upon completion of the course, members can print out a certificate of course completion on their USA Gymnastics "My Profile" page. (*Live Course: please allow 3-4 weeks)
U101 Safety/Risk Management is required for all Professional Members and Junior Professional Members of USA Gymnastics.
We recommend taking this course using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers.
Users must progress through each page and chapter of the course before accessing the final test. There is a 25-question final exam which must be passed with 75% or better score.
Re-certifying members can take the course up to one year prior to expiration. New expiration date will be July 31, four years from your expiring year.
The online course takes approximately four to five hours to complete.

Q: Is Safety/Risk Management Certification required?
A: Safety/Risk Management Certification is required for all Professional, Junior Professional and Introductory Coach members. The certification must be completed and passed before the membership will be active.
Q: I'm a coach/instructor with 10 years experience teaching gymnastics. Can I be grandfathered into the Safety/Risk Management certification course?
A: No. There is no grandfathering for course completion.
Q: Do I need to study any materials prior to taking the online course?
A: No. The online course will cover all of the information on the exams.
Q: How can I renew my Safety/Risk Management certification before it expires?
A: The Safety/Risk Management course is available as an online course. The cost for the online course is $75 for members and $95 for non-members. You may register and complete the Safety/Risk Management course up to one year before your certification expires. Once you renew your certification, four years will be added to your previous certification expiration date.
Q: I failed the Safety/Risk Management Certification course test. Do I have to re-register and pay to take the course again?
A: Yes. Participants have two chances to pass the course exam. If the exam is failed twice, the individual must re-register and pay for the course again.
Q: How often do I need to take the Safety/Risk Management Certification course?
A: Safety/Risk Management certification is valid for 4 years.
Q: How do I know when my Safety/Risk Management Certification expires?
A: Your Safety/Risk Management Certification expiration date is printed on your course certificate and card and for Professional members your expiration date is also printed on your membership card. If you do not have access to those sources, you may contact Member Services at 1-800-345-4719 and ask them to confirm your expiration date.
Q: Do I need to be a member to take the online Safety/Risk Certification course?
A: Yes. You will need a valid USA Gymnastics member number (username) and password to register and take the online course.
Q: How long will I have access to the online course?
A: You will have access to the online course for 3 years from the date of registration. If the course is not completed within 3 years of registration, your access to the course will expire and re-registration will be necessary. Upon completing the course, you will continue to have access to the online course materials for three years from the date of registration for the purpose of review and reference.
Q: I am a gym owner. Some of my teenaged student-athletes assist with various classes at my gym. Can they take the Safety/Risk Management course?
A: Course participants must be at least age 14 at the time of the course. No participants under age 14 are permitted to register or attend a course.
Q: What do I get for completing the Safety/Risk Management course?
A: Upon successful completion of the online course, participants receive a certificate and card indicating their certification. This course will also bring you one step closer to completion of USA Gymnastics University certification.
