U100:
Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction

U100: Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction introduces new and emerging gymnastics coaches to the baseline expectations required to coach in a club setting. These expectations include professionalism, understanding job expectations, intentional coaching, preparation and organization, professional boundaries, and safe interactions, along with additional foundational topics that support effective, responsible coaching.

Coaches learn how to prepare and structure classes, communicate clearly, supervise effectively, manage athlete behavior, and contribute to a positive training culture. U100 reinforces that coaching goes beyond teaching skills and that a central part of the role is setting the tone for a professional, safe, and athlete-centered gym environment athletes can trust.

The course includes demonstrations of foundational recreational skills and progressions through a Coaches Clinic segment. While the content centers on recreational and early-development levels, the principles apply across all ages and disciplines, including women’s and men’s artistic, trampoline & tumbling, rhythmic, and acrobatics.

This course takes approximately 3 hours to complete. It may be taken over multiple sessions, with progress saved automatically. After successful completion, the course will remain accessible for review at any time.

Minors taking the course must be logged in to their own profile, not their parent/guardian profile, to receive credit for the course. View page 2 of the Parent How-To Guide for further information.

To print course certificates, individuals must have an active USA Gymnastics membership (Recreational Coach, Competitive Coach, Judge, Owner/Managing Director, or Athlete).
