Peko's full name is Matalasiaufaiga Peko. She is the daughter of Heather Ciobanu and Tony Peko, and she has two brothers, Togasii (Sii) Peko and Mihai Ciobanu. Older brother Sii is a high school sophomore and plays football and runs track. Younger brother Mihai is 4 years old and loves to box and swim.

How did you get involved in gymnastics: I drove my parents crazy with all of my energy.
Favorite thing about gymnastics: I love feeling passionate about my sport and performing in front of crowds. I love being strong and powerful, yet graceful at the same time.
What are your goals for gymnastics?: To gain as much international experience as I can during the next three-and-a-half years so that I can compete and medal at the 2012 Olympics.

Charity Involvement: I helped with a Las Vegas radio station's toy drive by collecting toys for Brown's Gymnastics.
Other sports involvement: I don't play any other sports, but I do like watching UFC, NFL, PBR (bull riding) and NFR (rodeo).
