Kristy earned her first all-around finals appearance at the 1997 World Championships, where she placed 23rd. A member of the 1996 World Championships Team, she made semis on floor and also won a team gold medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. A last minute replacement for an injured gymnast, she won the 1995 McDonald's American Cup.
