Mizuno and Griskenas each have a top-ten World Cup all-around finish under their belts and have qualified to multiple apparatus finals so far this season. While they look to build on an impressive start to 2022, the U.S. National Group comprised of Maria Bolkhovitinova (Northfield, Ill.), Isabella Ivanova (Kirkland, Wash.), Gergana Petkova (Barrington, Ill.), Katrine Sakhnov (Sammamish, Wash.), Karolina Saverino (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), Hana Starkman (Plantation, Fla.) and Emily Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), which trains at North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, will get their first taste of international action under FIG's 2022-24 Code of Points, which features updated apparatus combinations. Gymnasts will perform on five hoops and on three ribbons and two balls in place of the five balls and three hoops and two pairs of clubs combinations that were utilized from 2017-2021.
Gymnasts from 19 countries are set to compete this weekend at Navarra Arena of Pamplona with 11 groups on the docket. Qualifications open Friday with individual gymnasts showing hoop and ball and groups performing five hoops. The individual and group all-around competitions will conclude Saturday with clubs and ribbon and three ribbons and two balls, respectively. Apparatus finals will take place Sunday with the top-eight gymnasts or groups on each event advancing to Day 3.
Griskenas and Mizuno will compete with Group A beginning at 6:30 a.m. ET on Friday and 7:30 a.m. ET on Saturday. Group qualifications will kick off at noon ET both days. The hoop, ball and five hoops finals will take place in the first finals session Sunday at 6 a.m. ET. The clubs, ribbon and three ribbons and two balls finals will follow at 8:15 a.m. ET.
